After decades of a traditional scheme of filming pornography and selling it as a product, the stars of the adult entertainment industry are moving into a niche market that, while not new, has benefits for both them and consumers: webcam. Timişoara is a city in Romania, with a population of 400,000 people in 2006, capital of the Timiş district, and a past that dates back to 1019, because it is mentioned in a text by the Byzantine emperor Basil II.
Timisoara is not only known as the birthplace of Sandra Romain (her real name is Maria Popescu), a Romanian porn actress who shot about 1,000 movies, most of which feature anal sex, including up to three anal penetrations. She was cataloged as “the queen of anal sex”, beyond that her family was assumed to be very integrated to the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church, and there were those who proposed an exorcism because “Satan had entered it” when she decided to enter the church.
Romania, like Hungary since the 1990s, was invaded by the porn industry, also known as adult entertainment. But, while Hungary was very strong in videos, Romania did it in the niche ‘webcam girl’, that is, the girls who satisfy the wishes of their customers online. Hundreds of sites offer teen cams, latina cams, BBW cams, hot cams and so on with beautiful exponents of porn for a fee that could be equivalent to the old price of a porn movie for, say, 5 or 10 minutes of direct experience. This, for many fans, constitutes a new type of relationship.
This phenomenon is not just about pornography because live cams also talk about how to build a close community between performers and their audience. This is one of the new approaches in the business world that can be applied to different types of business.
